Dry skin is when your skin doesn’t have enough moisture. It can feel very uncomfortable. Dry and dehydrated skin can cause itchiness, flakiness, cracking, irritation and sometimes pain. Hot & cold weather can cause this condition, also things like harsh soaps, hot baths and dry air from heaters or air conditioners.
You might want to change your skincare routine if you have a dry sensitive skin and start using products that are more suitable for your skin type. Also, it might be handy to look up the ingredients in your skincare, things like dry types alcohol and fragrance (perfume) in skincare can make your skin even dryer.
Dry & dehydrated skin can look saggy and flaky, also wrinkles and fine lines are more noticeable. So, this is definitely not something that you want.
I suffered from dry sensitive skin years ago myself and especially during colder months, it was really hard to keep up with my skin. On top of all that, when you don’t feel comfortable in your own skin it can make you feel insecure.
Here are my top 5 J-beauty products for dry (sensitive) skin that I definitely recommend.
Hada Labo – Gokujyun Foam Face Wash
An instant face wash that is super easy to use. This face wash doesn’t make your skin feel squeaky clean after washing your face. It’s free from any fragrance, mineral oil, colorant and alcohol. And it contains Hada Labo’s signature ingredients hyaluronic acids.
Hada Labo – Gokujyun Premium Lotion
This Japanese lotion toner is not just a lotion. It has a thick gel-ish consistency, more like a serum than a regular lotion. Also, it contains 7 types of hyaluronic acids to highly moisturize your skin. You can spread it easily; 2-3 drops are more than enough to cover your entire face and neck. It’s free from any fragrance, colorant and alcohol.
Oah and this lotion has won several beauty awards in Japan as best lotion and moisturizing products. SCORE!!
Ishizawa Lab - Keana Nadeshiko Rice Face Mask
A facial sheet mask made from Japanese rice. This face mask can be used on daily basis and it’s economically packed, 1 package contains 10 sheets. Since the masks are soaked in beauty serum, it won’t dry out quickly if you don’t use it every day after opening. However it’s highly recommended to use it within 1 year after opening, but trust me, that won't be an issue.
Main ingredient is Rice bran and fermented rice water (sake).
SANA – Nameraka Honpo Haritsuya Q10 Emulsion
A mild moisturizing emulsion containing soybean isoflavone, soybean extract and encapsulated coenzyme Q10. Not only does this emulsion moisturize your skin, but it also helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Q10 may help improve the appearance of signs of aging.
It does not contain alcohol, coloring, mineral oil and this emulsion is fragrance free.
See our previous blog for more information about emulsion.
Lululun – Moist Gel Cream
Lululun is most well-known by their number 1 daily sheet masks, but they have more skincare products next to their famous sheet masks.
This fluffy gel-ish textured cream has a light floral citrusy scent. Lululun moist gel cream contains micro gel technology which encapsulates beauty essence in a gel like form. Although it feels like a gel, it is actually a cream.
A little bit goes a long way, since it spreads easily you don’t need much of it and you can enjoy this cream for a long time.
